Big ‘Z’ Rum is produced and bottled by “Tobacco Barn Distillery”. It is now available in local wine and spirit shops throughout Maryland! If your retailer does not carry it, ask them to!…. or see one of the listed retailers below that are proud supporters of the USS Zumwalt and crew.

Big ‘Z’ Rum is crafted in small batches at Maryland’s only farm based distillery – Tobacco Barn Distillery in St. Mary’s County…where rum was first produced in Maryland in the early 1600’s. Each batch is handmade from the highest grade molasses from Domino Sugar in Baltimore and pure clean water from the farm’s deep aquifer. Simple and pure ingredients: the highest quality molasses, pure water and yeast that ferments at 93 degrees to simulate the traditional Navy Rum’s of the Caribbean. Simple and natural ingredients.

Big ‘Z’ is wonderfully complex; thanks to a “warm fermentation” that promotes the formation of esters and flavor components of traditional “Navy Style” rums. This rum has plenty of depth with large hints of vanilla, caramel and pineapple flavors with a subtle whiskey note. Big ‘Z’ is rested in used bourbon barrels for the length of a sea voyage and given a periodic shake to give it the allusion of still being at sea.

Tobacco Barn Distillery is the Maryland’s only craft distillery that has earned the Maryland Green Registry certification as they combine solar and geothermal systems to produce over half the energy required to produce their products, while recycling 100% of their cooling water.

A substantial portion of the proceeds for this limited production run goes to support the Commissioning of USS ZUMWALT DDG-1000.
